ANOTHER OPINION ON MEASURE Y-1

Ann Leonard, a concerned member of our North East Berkeley community, has responded to the opinion on Measure Y-1 that appeared in the NEBA News. In our tradition of presenting both pro and con opinions on subjects of interest to our community, with her permission, her letter can be seen here:

It is through your generous support that NEBA is one of the oldest and most respected neighborhood organizations in Berkeley.

NEBA's mission is to inform, educate and advocate for local electoral districts 5 and 6. Local civic issues of particular concern include fiscal responsibility, taxes and fees, public safety, public education, and basic neighborhood services. NEBA does not support or oppose any political candidates or parties, but does hold candidate and issue forums to stimulate interest and discussion. On occasion, NEBA offers analysis, opinion, and a recommended position on important local issues. We publish newsletters and hold community meetings.

As residents and spokespersons for Districts 5 and 6, we provide a unique perspective.

We are reaching out to you at this time to ask for a membership contribution/renewal to help keep NEBA a strong and active community organization.

Please consider renewing your membership today.

Individual membership: $25
Family membership: $35

Here is something else to think about. NEBA is now inviting NEBA members to join our board. We are a lean and congenial team who meet monthly. Perhaps you would like for NEBA to present a different perspective on Berkeley issues? Please contact us. We would welcome your participation.

Thank you.

North East Berkeley Association Mission Statement

North East Berkeley Association (NEBA) is a nonpartisan community organization whose mission is to inform, educate, and advocate for the interests of Berkeley residents of local electoral Districts 5 and 6 (roughly coincident with the 94707 and 94708 zip codes). Civic issues of particular interest and concern include municipal fiscal responsibility, local taxes and fees, public safety, public education, and basic neighborhood services. NEBA is informed and guided in its mission by the single-family zoning and homeowner status of most of NEBA residents.

NEBA does not support or oppose any political candidates or parties. However, NEBA does hold candidate and issue forums, thereby stimulating interest and discussion. On occasion, NEBA will offer analysis, opinion, and a recommended position on important local issues. To accomplish its mission, NEBA publishes a newsletter and holds community meetings. Its Board of Directors meets several times a year and Board subcommittees as needed.
